Invitation to SHA’s February Talk

Good day dear heritage loving person.

Your association is pleased to announce the event for February.
We have been very fortunate to secure Jan Langenhoven to come and talk to us (along with plenty of wonderful visuals to accompany his presentation) on Wednesday 27 February.
The presentation is titled: Witsand and Port Beaufort: A few fascinating historical snippets.
  • Jan has been researching the history of Witsand and Port Beaufort since 2005.
  • He has published Gooi los!   (2012)   a book on the history of the fishing industry of Witsand and Port Beaufort and now  two new volumes Witsand Terugreis and Witsand Terugblik  (2019)  on the history of Witsand and the stories of the early permanent residents, which includes some information on Port Beaufort.
  • Jan also re-published Aubrey Buiski’s 1952 thesis The Barrys and the Overberg for  Port Beaufort’s bicentenary in 2017 and translated it into Afrikaans as well.  Through his research on Port Beaufort and its history he has become an expert on this former port and surroundings.
  • Jan will be sharing interesting information arising from his research and present a slide-show from his huge collection of historical photographs.

Jan is an accomplished speaker with an easy style of presentation which, along with his slides will make for a fascinating evening.

Esme’s usual delicious snacks and a glass of wine (or juice) will be available after the talk where you can socialise with friends and members and speak to Jan on a one to one basis.
There will be books on sale for those interested.
