Outing to local stud farm
It is with pleasure your committee can announce our event for October will be an outing to the beautiful horse breeding stud farm of Klawervlei.
Klawervlei is owned and managed by John Koster who hails from a family of horse breeders over the generations.
John will be our host for the day.
The farm Wagenboomheuwel on which the stud is situated is truly a visual delight with its many green grassy camps in which the horses graze. Not to mention the magnificence of the stallion stable building where the prize stallions are housed.
We will start our adventure on Tuesday the 23rd of October by meeting at Zanddrift (aka Drosdy Restaurant opposite the Drostdy Museum) at 10h00 where we can sort out who travels with whom. We will depart at 10h30 from Zanddrift.
From there we will travel to Klawervlei Stud which is on the road to Drew and arrive at 11h00 where our host John will welcome us with tea and where we will be seated in front of the Stallion Stables under umbrellas. John will then tell us a bit about the history of horse breeding and racing in South Africa as well as about his stud, Klawervlei. There will then be a parade of stallions from the stud on the lawn in front of us.
Thereafter, for those who wish to see, we will go to the covering area and be shown the covering of a mare which is of course the raison d’être of a horse stud.
We will then drive through the Klawervlei stud farm and take in the extent and beauty of the farm, ending up in a boma built of stone, built into the side of a hill overlooking the farm, its dam and the beautiful Langeberge as a backdrop. There we will have a light lunch and enjoy wine or other non alcoholic beverage (graciously provided by our host). There will also be a Gin tasting where you are able to make up your own flavour of Gin which will be quite novel and a lot of fun.
From there-after our goodbyes to our host we will take our leave for home.
As the food is being catered for by an outside catering company it is essential that you please RSVP by the given time below and once committed you remain responsible for the outing’s fee.
